Ikigai is a Japanese word that translates into “reason for being”. Ryland wanted to learn more about this concept and spent 21 days solo traveling Japan with a Leica Q2 camera that was loaned to him by a friend. Ryland moved slowly each day, not worried so much with plans rather moving deliberately. He found himself on the island of Okinawa where it is said Ikigai originated.
